Okay. So my previous idea is very cool, if I do say so myself, but after consulting with industry professionals at this years Develop expo in Brighton, I've decided to come up with a new idea. This is because my last game idea, whilst cool and all, required too many complicated features to be implemented before the basic game loop for the game could be executed. With the main part of the game being reliant on technology that is still being developed, I decided that the scope of it was maybe a bit too large for this project. I have full intentions to build this game in the future but I'm not sure its the right fit for now.

So, following some more advice I got at Develop, I thought about starting with a type of game that interests me first. I could then figure out the cool gimmicks after. Right then, back to the drawing board. What kind of game do I want to make? Something I'd be passionate about. Something that fulfils a fantasy I'm fond of...

I'm a massive comic book & anime geek, so why not something with superheroes?

After a few days of brainstorming, I finally landed on a new idea.

Introducing...

Nemesis: Showdown

Nemesis: Showdown is a 1-vs-1 online multiplayer game where players will play either a superhero or supervillain and face off against each other as their Nemesis to save - or take over Sapphire City.

Inspired by games such as Bandai's DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS, and Insomniac's Spider-Man (2018), Players will get to explore Sapphire City as they look to make use of the resources it has to offer to grow their power & influence, and get an edge over their Nemesis.

Sapphire City (& How to Win)

Sapphire City is a bustling place filled with opportunity, both for those with good intentions and those without. An Influence Meter will show the progress of the Hero and Villain's struggles for control of the city balancing between Hope for the Hero, and Despair for the Villain. If the meter falls completely to a player's side or the timer ends with the meter on their side, that player will win the match.

The Hero

The Hero's goal is to inspire hope and save Sapphire City. They will be able to fly through Sapphire city, use their powers to save civilians & stop heists. As they perform these tasks, their reputation will increase, which they can spend as a resource to get local police to protect an area from heists for a set amount of time. By saving enough civilians, Heroes can level up , upgrading stats and providing new powers/abilities.

The Villain

The Villain wants to control the crime underworld and instil despair to take over the city. Their main method of movement is currently undecided, however, they will have multiple secret bases hidden around the city. The Villain will be able to use these secret bases to teleport around the city instantly, similar to how vents work in Among Us. They will also be able to perform heists to gain money, and be able to spend money send henchmen to perform heists for you. They will try to slow down and distract the Hero by setting traps, and can level up by stealing protected tech.

Future Character Options

There will be only one selectable Hero and Villain available to select when the initial version of the game is completed, however I have plans to add additional characters to the game, such as: Speed-based and Tech-based Heroes, & Villains with new aims - one who wants to mutate its populace, as well a villain with aims to destroy the city outright.

There will be a lot of things I will have to learn for this project, such as how to create multiplayer games in Unreal, but I'm looking forward to it!
